Canadian Library Month – featuring our Local History and Genealogy volunteers!

October is Canadian Library Month and we feel that it’s a perfect opportunity to recognize some of the incredible people who contribute to making our library the wonderful place it is.

Every week for well over a decade, John and Phil have been devoting their Wednesday evenings to assist people with their genealogical searches here in our Local History Department. Both of these volunteers have a wealth of knowledge about researching family trees and utilizing one of the libraries subscribed resources, Ancestry. If you you’ve come to a road block in your genealogy investigations or you are just starting out and don’t know how or where to begin, please drop by at 6:00 on a Wednesday evening and these gentlemen will be happy to help you out! Thank you John & Phil for your commitment to this valuable library service.

Canadian Library Month — featuring the talented Andre!

October is Canadian Library Month and we feel that it’s a perfect opportunity to recognize some of the incredible people who contribute to making our library the wonderful place it is.

Andre is an exceptionally talented local artist/illustrator who has been running our (pre-COVID) weekly Art Club for Kids for several years and is the creator of our incredible Children’s Department Mural! Andre has been dedicating his personal time to teach kids of all ages about the different elements and styles of art, instructing young artists on different techniques, inspiring kids to find their creative abilities and providing fun artistic games and activities every week! When the current pandemic forced programs such as Art Club to shut down, Andre took his passion online and held a very popular ‘Weekly Doodle Challenge’ series of videos that attracted the attention and participation from kids all over Canada and around the world and was even featured in a Global News piece. We can’t wait until we are able to hold library programs again, including the very popular Stirling Art Club for Kids and we feel extremely fortunate to have someone like Andre to run such a successful program here.

Canadian Library Month – featuring Sharon who keeps our gardens looking awesome!

October is Canadian Library Month and we feel that it’s a perfect opportunity to recognize some of the incredible people who contribute to making our library the wonderful place it is.

The Stirling Horticultural Society has been taking care of the gardens around our beautiful village for many years. This year, Sharon, a Horticultural member and active library patron has been assigned to the gardens surrounding the library building. Sharon has spent so much of her time weeding, pruning, thinning, planting, watering, cutting, feeding,  and loving our gardens and does it ever show! Thank you so much Sharon for all your efforts to beautify our space outside! In the words of Marcus Tullius Cicero…“If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.”

Canadian Library Month – featuring our wonderful Art Gallery volunteers!

October is Canadian Library Month and we feel that it’s a perfect opportunity to recognize some of the incredible people who contribute to making our library the wonderful place it is.

Over the last few years, Sarah and Yvonne have ensured that beautiful local art is displayed in our Art Gallery and lobby display case. So much of their personal time is spent seeking out local artists, creating and organizing a calendar for featuring artwork, meticulously and thoughtfully hanging artwork every couple of months and dismantling the exhibits at the end of their display period. Over the years, these generous women have also hosted wonderful opening galas at the beginning of each show, providing treats, refreshments, and warm company to the artists, their families and visitors. We are looking forward to a time when we can enjoy the Art Gallery once again and we want to express our sincere appreciation for all the time and effort Sarah and Yvonne have put towards this space in the library. Thank you!

Canadian Library Month – featuring Jackie who has been volunteering to shelve books for over 30 years!

October is Canadian Library Month and we feel that it’s a perfect opportunity to recognize some of the incredible people who contribute to making our library the wonderful place it is.

Jackie has been shelving books in our library for over 30 years!! Every Tuesday, Jackie volunteers her time to shelve all the returns that have accumulated over the week. Not only does Jackie catch spine label errors, bindings that require care and loose pages, but she is also the finder of many bookmarks, receipts, grocery lists, and school wallet photos as she carefully inspects each and every book before putting it away. Thank you Jackie, for giving so much of your time (literally thousands of hours) and being such a vital part of our library team.

Canadian Library Month – featuring our amazing custodial staff!

October is Canadian Library Month and we feel that it’s a perfect opportunity to recognize some of the incredible people who contribute to making our library the wonderful place it is.
This week, we would like to acknowledge Kathy, Ross and Garry…our custodial team! Under Garry’s leadership (not pictured), Kathy has been keeping our library spic and span for approximately four years now and has recently recruited Ross’s help with the extra duties required with COVID-19. Arriving well before the library opens, this duo not only vacuums, mops, and sanitizes the obvious surfaces and spaces but keeps even the tiniest nooks and highest crannies free of dust bunnies and cob webs! We can’t express enough how much we appreciate all their hard work and how nice it is to open up a clean and sanitary space for our patrons and staff. Thank you so much Kathy, Ross and Garry!
